A floating Liquified Natual Gas facility is among the recommendations of a report on Ireland’s energy security, which has been published this week.
The independent report also mentions other potential mitigation measures, including onshore strategic gas storage, additional electricity interconnectors, biomass plants and hydrogen plants.
It also examines how best to move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

Clare’s Green party Senator believes “it’s terrible” that Ireland didn’t move towards establishing our own energy two decades ago, saying we’ve come very late to the game.
But Inagh Senator Roisín Garvey is still optimistic that this country will become energy efficient and energy self-sufficient in the medium and long term, saying we have huge potential.
The independent report will now be examined by Government, which will consult with stakeholders on what options are most feasible.
