The Clare TD who is advocating the decriminalisation of cannabis says such a move would benefit many youngsters whose lives are impacted by convictions for using the drug.

Deputy Joe Carey insists he’s not convinced by calls to legalise cannabis, currently being debated in the Dail, but says he favours implementing a model similar to that of Portugal, which removes criminal penalties for personal use of cannabis.
