Clare's Independent TD says the lack of investment in our roads network is preventing rural areas from benefitting from recent economic growth.
Dr Michael Harty is a member of the Rural Independent Alliance, which has put forward a Dáil motion calling for increased funding for local and regional routes, as part of the capital plan.
They're calling for a 50% increase in the roads budget in the years ahead, if the national finances are improved.
A vote will be taken on the matter in the Dáil today and Deputy Harty says it's important that it's given support.
