A Clare TD believes data protection regulations should be revised so that perpetrators of illegal dumping can be named and shamed.
It follows a joint checkpoint held by Gardaí and Clare County Council at Brennan’s Cross in Meelick this week which aimed to deter the disposal of rubbish at Woodcock Hill.
In recent times, locals have reported intimidation when confronting illegal dumpers in addition to the regular discovery of animal carcasses, car bumpers, mattresses, plastic bottles and even on one occasion a litter of puppies.

Meelick Fianna Fáil Deputy Cathal Crowe says while a sub vented nationwide bin collection service would be an ideal solution, he believes those convicted of the crime should be made known to the public.
