Clare SVP President Welcoming Possible Government Intervention Over Energy Costs

The President of the Clare branch of St Vincent De Paul is welcoming proposed government intervention over energy prices.

The government is considering imposing a levy on state-owned energy companies that are recording above average profits.

It’s comes as Electric Ireland announced price cuts for businesses, but not households, following a drop in wholesale prices.

The Finance Minister Michael McGrath says a 5th energy credit is not being ruled out for later in the year and will be considered as part of Budget 2024 proposals.

Clare branch President Denis Carty says if a levy is introduced, he’d like to see the money go towards targetted measures to help the most vulnerable.
