Clare SVP Calling For Social Gas Bill Tariff For Vulnerable Customers

The Clare branch of Saint Vincent De Paul is calling on the government to urgently establish a social tariff for customers struggling with energy costs.

New figures from the utilities regulator show that one in four households are in arrears with their gas bills, while a further 15,000 are in difficulty with their heating.

A €300 lump sum fuel allowance was announced in Budget 2024, however the one-off payment is only available to those who meet the criteria of a means test.

Clare Saint Vincent De Paul President Denis Carty has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan that scores of families across the county need more help.
