The Superintendent of the Ennis Garda District believes society ‘isn’t at the stage’ where Gardaí need to be armed.
It’s after controversial comments from Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, where he suggested the force should have access to full arms in the future.

Concerns have been raised locally about Garda protection following the assault of two members of the force during an incident in Ennis last month.
However, Superintendent John Galvin doesn’t believe items such as tasers or arms should be considered for the force at this point.
