Clare students are being warned not to become victims of accomodation fraud, as they look to secure a place to rent for the summer or the next college year.
It follows a report of a woman being scammed out of a substantial amount of money, after transferring a deposit through an online link connected with a property on a rental site.

Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer is encouraging people to use legitimate and we-known rental agencies where possible and to keep copies of all correspondence between themselves and the advertiser, including bank details and the advertisement itself.
Sergeant Triona Brooks says people should never hand over money until they’ve viewed the property.
