The ASTI is meeting with Minister for Education Norma Foley in a bid to resolve the dispute but says that’s not a guarantee it will re-enter negotiations.

The ASTI is meeting with Minister Norma Foley today to discuss issues with the Leaving Cert, but they’re not back in talks.

The teachers union withdrew from those discussions last evening, over the calculated grades part of the twin process.

The union says it’s committed to getting a solution as soon as possible, but insists there has to be an exam result with standards.

Union President Anne Piggott says it’s become clear that the non-examination aspect of the Leaving Cert is the calculated grades process.

One Ennis Leaving Cert student believes calculated results should be the premier option.

Jake O’Sullivan, who attends Ghaelcholáiste an Chláir has criticised the union for pulling out, saying the ongoing lack of clarity is having a big impact on students.

The Minister for Higher Education has said the ASTI have been beyond unhelpful by walking away from talks on the Leaving Cert.

Simon Harris believes the union should take a leaf out of the students’ books.
