Clare Sinn Fein TD Claims Prolonged Underfunding Of Childcare Costs Crippling Families

Clare’s Sinn Féin TD says there can be no economic recovery until there is a childcare system that works for all.

It comes as a UNICEF report has found that in Ireland, a couple with an average income would need to spend up to a half of one salary to pay for two children in childcare.

Sinn Féin last year put forward a motion to create a ‘sustainability fund’ for childcare which would aim to transform the sector into a publicly funded model similar to that of secondary school education – however the motion was defeated.
