Counting is underway today and Sinn Féin looks set to win the most seats for the first time in history.
With political parties in Northern Ireland not sharing their tally data with each other hard numbers at this stage of count day are hard to come by.
But the first counts should start to come in over the next hour or two to give us the first real idea of how the parties have done.
Sinn Féin is happy with turnout in its stronger areas, and while turnout looks to be down on the 2017 election – it’s still higher than 2016s election turnout.
All the polls indicate a win for Sinn Féin, making it the largest party in the assembly for the first time.
Shannon-based Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan is in Enniskillen, having been on the capaign trail for her party.
She says people there are most concerned about the cost of living, housing and healthcare, though the border poll is still on people’s minds.
Councillor McGettigan says there is huge appetite for change in the North.
The DUP looks set for losses – with votes seemingly picked off from their right wing through the hardline TUV and to the left of the party with the middle ground Alliance Party performing well.
While it’s looking like a struggle for the SDLP and UUP to hold on to some of their seats.
A lot of counting to go here and when transfers come into it things can look very different.
It’s going to be a long night for candidates and their parties.
Northern Secretary Brandon Lewis is appealing to all parties to work together once the votes are counted.
