Clare Senator Says Underused Above-Shop Properties “Deeply Concerning”

A Clare senator believes it’s “deeply concerning” that measures aren’t in place to bring vacant above-shop properties into use.

Speaking in the Seanad, Inagh Senator Róisín Garvey has called for the regulations around access, egress and fire certification in upstairs dwellings to be streamlined to make it easier for people to live in such units.

Data from GeoDirectory has revealed Shannon’s commercial vacancy rate to be the second-highest in the country at 29.8%, while Kilrush has the second-highest in Munster at 24.6%.
