Clare’s Fine Gael senator says the government should provide a bailout package to Aer Lingus if the airline requests it.
It comes as Clare’s Oireachtas representatives and Councillors will convene a special meeting this morning to discuss the latest in attempts to reverse the airline’s decision to permanently close its Shannon base.
Aer Lingus says it’s lost over 460 million euro since the beginning of last year, with their financial situation playing a major role in their decision to lay off cabin crew and ground staff in the Midwest.
Ennistymon-based Fine Gael senator Martin Conway doesn’t believe the government will be found wanting if the airline requests further financial support.
