Clare Senator Calls For Urgent Debate On Direct Provision Following Release Of New Report

A Clare Senator is calling for urgent debate on direct provision after findings of a new report highlighted "unjustifiable delays" in processing asylum applications.

The Government's working group on Asylum and Protection Process has released a number of recommendations aimed at ensuring no-one is in the system for more than five years.

The report also recommends an increase in allowances for adults and children.

There is one direct provision centre in Clare, at Knockalisheen near Meelick, and Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway feels the recommendations are only a first step.
