Clare senator calls for North Clare Fish Farm plans to be turned down

The Seanad has heard calls for a controversial fish farm off the North Clare coast to be scrapped.

Bord Iascaigh Mhara is seeking permission a deep sea salmon farming licence for a site in Galway Bay and say the project would create 350 direct jobs and generate over €100 million a year in exports.

However, over 400 members of the public have lodged submissions as the application continnes to be considered by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway wants the project to be turned down
