A Clare Senator, who is a member of the Oireachtas Justice Committee, has called for a debate on the criminalisation of drugs here.

Senator Martin Conway's committee has received 87 submissions on drug laws, and all bar one favour decriminalising or softening sanctions for possession of substances.
The group is now set to urge the government to consider a similar system to Portugal, where the possession of some drugs for personal use has been decriminalised.
The Ennistymon Senator has told a Committee hearing that he thinks it's a plan which deserves consideration.
