A Clare Senator believes compulsory voting may be the solution to low turnout at elections and referendums in Ireland.
With voting in the Seanad and Criminal Appeals Court Referendums less than three weeks away, Fine Gael’s Martin Conway says we should model our voting system on Australia where it’s mandatory to vote, and those who don’t cast their ballots can be fined.
The Ennistymon Senator says a similar system here would ensure a high turnout in future.
