Clare Senator Calls For Debate On US Military Use Of Shannon Airport

A Clare government Senator has called for a debate on whether it’s still appropriate to allow Shannon Airport be used by the US military.

Ennistymon Fine Gael representative Martin Conway has told the Seanad that Ireland’s long-running policy needs to be reviewed in light of comments from President Trump, who has said that he supports torture.

Shannon has been used by the US military for over 50 years, and the government has insisted that this does not breach our long-standing policy of neutrality.
