Senator Martin Conway is responding to figures from the National Treatment Fund showing a significant jump in the number of patients waiting for long periods for inpatient and outpatient appointments in the Midwest.

In June of last year, throughout the UL Hospitals Group, there were 136 people waiting at least a year for an appointment but this year, that number has soared by 500% to 815.

The problem is particularly acute at University Hospital Limerick, however Senator Conway insists the government is committed to tackling issues within our health service.
