Clare’s Fine Gael Senator is accusing the government of ‘sitting on its hands’ when it comes to providing the funding necessary to facilitate the transfer of heritage sites to Clare County Council.
The local authority has presented a business case to government underpinning the need for funding in order for it to assume responsibility for Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Craggaunowen and Knappogue Castle from Shannon Group.
Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway is now calling on the coalition party leaders to respond to the request as a matter of urgency.
Senator Conway insists it would be a ‘cheap investment’ from government that would ensure the viability of tourism in Clare.
