The number of commencement notices issued in Clare has fallen significantly over the last year.
August figures from the Department of Housing show the level of activity in this county has reduced by 65% on the same period of 2023.
Just seven commencement notices were issued in Clare last month.
This is down from 20 issued in August of 2023, representing a decrease of 65% in the past 12 months.
The seven commencement notices seen represented all construction work undertaken in the county, which is a reduction from the 42 developments seen 12 months ago, and represents a fall off of 83%.
Each of the commencements were for one off units, which have also more than halved.
15 one off units began construction in August 2023, 53% more than what was recorded here last month.
In comparison to the rest of the province, Clare recorded the lowest amount of construction projects in Munster with Tipperary seeing just one more with 8, while Cork had the most with 188.
While nationally, there were just four counties that saw construction commence on less projects, namely these are Westmeath, Carlow, Kilkenny and Leitrim.
In total nationwide, 2264 projects saw construction commence during the month of August which is 18% lower than last year however was higher than in 2022 and 2021.
