Secondary teachers in Clare are walking the picket line outside their schools this lunchtime.
They're among 27,000 ASTI and TUI members across the country protesting over Junior Cert Reform.
Today's lunchtime protest is likely to be the last in this school year but members of the ASTI and TUI have warned that further industrial action is inevitable if the Education Minister implements current proposals.
Jan O'Sullivan says she intends to move ahead with reform of the Junior Cert English syllabus in September – even though most teachers have not yet availed of training on offer.
Minister of Sullivan says she's disappointed that teachers are holding lunchtime protests today and she's urging unions to return to the talks table.
Teachers say they fully support a move away from excessive reliance on written exams and want to see more focus on practical, portfolio and project work.
But they say they won't budge on the issue of independent assessment.
Peter Quinn is a teacher at St Flannan's College in Ennis and the ASTI Representative for Clare.
Speaking to Clare FM, he said teachers are making every effort to avoid disruption to students but believes their future must be protected.
