Clare Samaritans say the festive period is a peak-time for those in need of their services.
Latest figures reveal that the group's Ennis branch has answered over 41,000 calls for help in the last 12 months with Christmas and the new year a particularly busy time.
Most of these calls are received out of hours when other support is not available.
Clare volunteer Kevin Phelan says the New Year's period can be particularly tough for people.
