Voting has been brisk in Clare in General Election 2016, with the turnout seemingly higher in rural areas.
The highest turnout reported following the close of polling tonight was at Bansha N.S. in West Clare, where 90% of voters turned out.
In Kilmihil, 85.5% of voters cast their ballot while many places saw over 70% of the electorate turn out.
This included Barefield (71%), Annaghneal (70%), Quilty (73%), Crusheen (72%), Tulla (71%) and O'Callaghans Mills (73%).
An early sample of polling stations suggests a lower turnout in urban areas in Clare.
Cloughleigh, Ennis appears to be the lowest at 52%, while elsewhere turnout in Newmarket is less than 70%, and lower again in Kilmurry (66%), Ennistymon (62%) and St. Conaire's in Shannon (64%).
Meanwhile, an Irish Times exit poll suggests the outgoing coalition will fall a long way short of being returned to government.
Fine Gael are on 26.1%, Fianna Fáil on 22.9%, Sinn Féin on 14.9% and Labour on 7.8%.
Anti-Austerity Alliance, the Green Party, Social Democrats and Renua are all polling between 2%-4%, with Independents and Others on 16.1%.
5260 people were surveyed outside 200 polling stations by IPSOS/MRBI.
