Retailers in Clare are being warned of a spike in crime in the run up to the Christmas period.
Today is retail safety day, which aims to raise awareness of ways to prevent losses from criminal activity, as well as advising the public on safe shopping and parking.
Clare's Crime Prevention Officer says 55 million euro worth of goods nationally is lost through theft in the run up to the festive period as retailers take in increased stock and more money is being spent.
Sergeant Joe Downey is reminding businesses to be extra vigilant this year.
