Clare Retailers Say Rates Aren’t Value For Money

Business owners in Clare insist they’re not getting value for money when it comes to commercial rates.

Clare has some of the highest rates in the country, following closely behind only Cork and Kerry.

The Mayor of Ennis is calling on Clare’s TDs are being told to fight for more funding for the county, so that rates charges for businesses here can be lowered.

Councillor Ann Norton believes the Council’s ability to reduce the charge is affected by a shortfall in government funding, which she thinks needs to be addressed as a priority:

Rates levels are decided upon by Councillors, and the issue has been a contentious one in recent years as traders in Ennis and Kilrush see their bills increase following the abolition of Town Councils.
