Clare Representatives hit out at HSE cuts

Local representatives have criticised HSE plans to cut spending on healthcare for the elderly.

As part of it’s national plan for 2012, officials have announced that they are to close at least 555 public nursing home beds, though the HSE only a small number of units will shut their doors.

The Executive also admit that funding may not be in place to meet demand on the Fair Deal scheme, which assists those in need of long-term nursing home care.

Kilmaley Councillor and member of the Regional Health Forum Tom McNamara is not sure where the cutbacks can be found without affecting care.
