Clare is said to be “in limbo” due to the absence of a forum to discuss crime-related issues with local Gardaí.
All Joint Policing Committees nationwide were disbanded last year and will be replaced by Local Community Safety Partnerships which will be headed up by independent appointed chairpersons.
The closing date for expressions of interest for the role Chairperson on Clare’s Local Community Safety Partnership was July 15th last year, but the position hasn’t yet been filled and the new group has yet to convene.
Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes, who’ll sit on the LCSP once it’s established, says Clare’s elected representatives don’t currently have an official channel through which they can communicate with Gardaí.
