Clare Recovers From Ice as Preparations for Storms Begin

Motorists throughout are still dealing with the remnants of last night's snow this lunchtime, though conditions have improved after a morning of havoc.

Clare County Council Senior Engineer Tom Tiernan says staff worked through the night to ease issues on main roads this morning.

Despite their best efforts though, it was a morning of chaos for many, particularly those travelling between Ennistymon and Ennis.

There were long delays at Kilnamona until nearly 11 o'clock, and while these have cleared, patches of ice remained an issue for those travelling towards Ennis a short time ago.

There were at least two crashes this morning on black ice between Lissycasey and Kilrush, while problems were reported in virtually all areas of the county including the Tulla Road in Ennis and on both the M18 and the old Galway Road

There were dangerous conditions too around Shannon, at The Hand, in Kilmaley, and between Cranny and Ballynacally and Scariff and Gort.

Rail and bus services were disrupted too, but these have now resumed.

Some delays remain on the Bus Éireann network, but all school transport services are expected to operate this afternoon as road conditions improve.

However, while the snow is melting, more bad weather is not far away.

Met Eireann says heavy rain showers will begin this afternoon, and that stormy conditions will follow.
