Clare Records Marginal Annual Decline In Unemployment Last Month

Clare has recorded a marginal annual decrease in its monthly unemployment figure.

The latest report from the Central Statistics Office shows 3,692 people were accessing some form of unemployment benefit in the last week of August.

Of last months total, 1,823 of those in the county’s dole queues were men, with women accounting for the remaining 1,869.

Other than June of this year, it was the lowest figure for male unemployment in the county since 2002.

Compared to 12 months ago, countywide unemployment has fallen by just under 5%, down from 3,873 in August 2025.

The majority of presentations last month were seen in Ennis, where 2,053 people collected unemployment benefit.

Kilrush was the next busiest office, with 620 people collecting social welfare there, down slightly from August 2025.

In Ennistymon, dole queues remained at the exact same level as they were in July, with 525 people presenting in the North Clare office.

Meanwhile 494 people collected jobseekers benefit in Tulla last month.
