Clare has the lowest rate of re-offending after being granted a probation order in Munster.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show less than one in five offenders from this county who received a probation order re-offended within a year.
The CSO’s data shows a total of 20 people in Clare who’d previously been convicted of a crime re-offended within a year of their probation order in 2021 which is the most recent year for which records are available.
This was unchanged from the previous year and down 44% from 2019.
A total of 108 Clare offenders received probation orders in 2021 meaning the county had a re-offending rate of 19%.
This was the lowest in Munster and the ninth-lowest nationwide, with Kerry having the highest at 34% and Mayo recording the lowest at just 7%.
