There were 240 new waste water treatment systems registered in Clare last year.

Of these, 232 were domestic, eight were classed as non-domestic and none were registered as public authority systems.

This means Clare had the eighth-highest number of newly-registered domestic waste water treatment systems in the country last year, with Cork having the most, at 601.

While Clare’s figures are significantly above those of previous years, the data shows the amount of new domestic registrations last year was down by more than 5% from 2022.

It does however bring the number of waste water treatment systems in the county to 21,301 – 20,940 of which are domestic while 286 are non-domestic and 75 are public authority.

Clare now has the ninth-highest number of systems nationwide, with its share accounting for 4.3% of registrations nationally.
