Last month was Clare’s dullest May in a decade.
Met Éireann’s latest climate statement, published today, shows that last month was the country’s warmest May on record, with average national temperatures of 13.08 degrees celcius.
It’s only the 2nd time temperatures rose above 13 degrees, with 13.03 degrees recorded in the same month in 2008.
The coldest May on record was 102 years ago, in 1923, when average temperatures reached just over 8 degrees.
Despite this, the climate statement says that only 142.8 hours of sunshine were recorded at Met Éireann’s Shannon Airport station, marking the dullest May there since 2014.
