The Irish Dental Association says Clare is one of the areas where problems gaining access to dental care for medical card patients is most acute.
The latest HSE Figures show that while HSE spent over 800,000 euro on dental care for medical card holders in Clare last year. the number of dentists actively claiming compensation under the Dental Treatment Services Scheme in Clare dropped from 14 at the start of 2022 to 8 at the end of last year.
The Irish Dental Association has this week called on the Government to bring in an entirely new scheme to allow access to dental care for medical card patients.
Spokesperson Fintan Hourihan says issues surrounding access to care is being replicated across the country and he can’t understand the failure by Government to take action.
