Clare Psychiatrist Insists More Resources Needed For Children’s Mental Health Services

A West Clare Psychiatrist believes the covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent need for extra investment in children’s mental health services.

The Department of Health has told the Oireachtas mental health sub-committee that demand for children’s mental health services has increased by just under a quarter between 2012 and 2019.

There were 13,200 referrals to the child and adolescent mental health service last year while over 2,100 boys and girls are on the waiting list for specialist care.
