The number of monthly property commencements in Clare has more than halved from July to August.
New figures from the Department of Housing show construction began on 16 properties in the county last month.
A commencement notice is issued to Clare County Council when a person or business intends to carry out works on a property.
July saw the largest tally of such notices so far in 2025 with 35 lodged.
However, last months figure of 16 represents a 54% decline in the county in the space of a month.
It is however more than double the amount recorded in August 2024, when just 7 notices were filed with the council.
Out of the 16 commencements in August, two were done so for scheme units, which are executed when works begin under the first home scheme.
The remaining 14 properties were all filed as one off housing units, meaning for the sixth month this year, there were no commencements filed for apartment units.
In Munster, Clare ranks as the second lowest for commencement notices filed in August, with only Kerry seeing less applications.
