34 National Driving Licence Service Centres have opened across Ireland today, including one in Ennis, and motorists will have to go to these centres in future to renew their licenses.

An Post had unsuccessfully applied to be considered as a place of renewal, despite offering over 100 centres nationwide.

Clarecastle-based Tom O’Callagahn of the MidWest branch of the Irish Postmasters Union has criticised this decision, saying it’s  come as a blow to the future of the county’s post offices.
