The most high profile meetings of the two countries since February 2022 is underway today in Saudi Arabia, and although Kyiv has not been invited, the US envoy to Ukraine will meet with the EU in Brussels.

Russia has indicated it’s not willing to cede any of the 4,600km territory it’s captured in Ukraine since the war began, while Volodymyr Zelensky has refused a deal to allow the US access to 50% of its natural resources in exchange for support.

A Clare Politics Professor believes President Trump has handed a lifeline to Vladimir Putin, as Russia has failed to meet any of its military objectives and its economy is under extreme pressure from sanctions.

Newmarket-on-Fergus native and Professor of Politics at DCU, Donnacha Ó’Beacháin insists a bullying approach towards Ukraine will not end the fighting.

Since the beginning of the war, at least half a million people have been killed, while the fallout of the humanitarian crisis has brought over 5,100 Ukrainian refugees to Clare.
