The HSE has cut the amount of money it pays to pharmacies for dispensing drugs to medical card holders.
Many pharmacies nationwide will be closed today as a result of the meeting but some have measures in place for emergency prescriptions, others will open later in the day.
It’s estimated that two third of pharmacies here in Clare have given notice to the HSE advising it of their intention to withdraw from the scheme.

Shannon Pharmacist and Clare member of the Irish Pharmacists’ Union Feidhlim Hillery says the Health Minister Mary Harney has backed them into a corner on the issue.
