Clare dog owners are being warned of the potentially fatal consequences of allowing their pets near water where algae is present.
Blue-green algae forms on non-flowing, fresh water such as lakes, ponds and rivers, and thrives in hot summer weather.

Some types of algae are poisonous to pets and can result in death, while they can also cause illness for people if touched or swallowed.
Clare County Dog Warden Frankie Coote says pet owners should be aware of the risks.
