Hundreds of people from across Clare are expected to join a solidarity march for Ukraine in Ennis this evening.

It’s the largest of a series of events and fundraisers to have been organised across the county in recent days, with Russian troops now having been stationed in Ukraine for the last week.

People are being encouraged to bring Clare flags, which adorn the same colours as its Ukrainian counterpart, to Tim Smythe Park from 6 o clock this evening.

The Foreign Affairs Minister has said he believes Ireland could take in around 20,000 people from the war torn country.

Mayor of Ennis, Independent Councillor Ann Norton says it’s important that refugees are accommodated in the short term, despite potential logistical challenges.

The Ennis march is one of a number of demonstrations taking place across Ireland today.

A number of Ukrainian nationals protested outside the headquarters of Meta and Google in Dublin this morning.

The crowd handed in an open letter asking the tech companies to do more to take down Russian state-backed accounts spreading misinformation about the invasion of the country.

In a statement, the companies say they’re making content from Russian state-controlled accounts harder to find and that they’ll flag links to those sites to try and stop the spread of misinformation about the invasion of Ukraine.

Lana, who’s from Ukraine and now lives in Ireland, says it’s crucial people get a true picture of what’s happening.

Meanwhile, as Kharkiv comes under repeated attack, the mayor of Ukraine’s second largest city says it will not surrender to Russian forces.

At least 21 people died in shelling earlier and another four were killed from air and rocket strikes, according to emergency services.

Russia claims it’s captured the southern port city of Kherson.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains defiant though.
