Organisers say the plans which fall under the reform of local government will severly hamper their efforts to support local communities.

Approximately two thousand people are attending the the rally in Dublin calling on TDs to stop the administration of the Leader Scheme being transferred to local authorities.

The plan if it goes ahead will see Clare County Council take on the Local Development Company under changes to how local government is run under Minister Phil Hogan.

CLDC says it is the biggest threat to face community-led development since it first began in Clare 21 years ago.

CEO Doirin Graham says people across the county are extermely concerned.

While former Ireland Rugby captain Keith Wood has been praising the work CLDC.

He says the body helped in Killaloe's efforts to improve the village on the banks of the Shannon.

Mr Wood says without their support their work couldn't have been as successful.

Doirin Graham says all Clare TDs and Senators have been invited to this afternoon's rally.

She says she hopes the politicians attend and listen to the concerns that are being raised.
