Clare People Among Most Compliant With Local Property Tax Payments

Clare people are among the most compliant in the country with Local Property Tax – despite the rate undergoing an increase last year.

Figures released by Revenue also show that Clare County Council collected close to €10 million in Local Property Tax in 2017.

The preliminary data from Revenue shows that in total, some €477 million was collected nationwide in Local Property Tax across 2017.

Of this, €9.8million was collected in Clare – a rise on the 8.4 million on the previous year.

This is down to the local authority adopting the standard rate last year, rather than the reduced one that was in place in 2016, to boost their coffers.

The standard rate is in place for this year too, meaning a similar figure can be expected for 2018.

The data also shows that 99.4% of people in Clare were compliant with their Local Property Tax – with only South Dublin as high.

That’s ahead of the national compliance rate of 97%.

Meanwhile, the way in which we pay LPT looks set to change – with Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy saying he favours a new calculation system not based exclusively on market value of the house.
