A Clare cancer patient says families are being put under ‘excruciating’ stress by the financial burdens as a result of a cancer diagnosis.
Research from the Irish Cancer Society found patients are spending over €400 a month on medical expenses and a further €300 on travel costs associated with appointments.

The survey also found many patients were falling behind on their mortgages and forced to borrow money from friends.
Lahinch-based Patient Advocate on HSE Mid West’s Programme Improvement Board, John Wall, says patients should avail of an emergency medical card.
