Figures released to the Dáil by the Education Minister show only 11 of the county's 18 post primary schools operate a book rental scheme.

This 61% rate is lower than the national average of 65%, and far lower than the likes of Carlow, Leitrim and Offaly which all have rates over 90%.

95% of primary schools here operate a book rental scheme, a figure which is in line with the national average.
