A Clare Paedeatric Oncologist is encouraging parents to familiarise themselves with the symptoms of brain tumours in children, amid warnings that a delayed diagnosis could have a lifelong impact on their health.
To coincide with National Brain Tumour Awareness Week, which runs until Sunday, Brain Tumour Ireland has developed a guide on identifying symptoms in children and teenagers.
The National Children’s Cancer Centre, at CHI Crumlin sees all cancer diagnoses for children under the age of 16 years in the Republic of Ireland, with around 220 new patients a year.
Kilnamona native, Dr Noelle Cullinan, who’s a Consultant Paediatric Oncologist at the centre, says the way in which symptoms present can depend on a child’s age.
