Clare is one of only two counties nationwide that has seen a decrease in primary school enrollment numbers in the past ten years.
A new Department of Education shows that even though there has been an increase of 27.7% in enrolments in primary schools nationally, Clare’s numbers have dropped.
It comes as schools such as Clooney’s primary facility are battling to keep teaching numbers at current levels due to the fall in numbers of students.
Former President of the INTO and Corofin Fianna Fáil Councillor Joe Killeen, hopes the addition of working hubs around the county will attract families back to Clare and help increase primary school enrollment numbers.
