A prominent member of the Clare Older People’s Council says the Government should consider increasing the Free Electricity Allowance.
It’s in response to fresh concerns regarding rising energy prices following the European Commission President’s call for a ban on Russian oil imports.

The Free Electricity Allowance is part of a Household Benefits Package provided by the Department of Social Protection, which had nearly 3,000 applications in Clare last year.
Maurice Harvey of the Clare Older People’s Council group says the rate of payment for that benefit should be enhanced by the State.
