Clare Oireachtas Health Committee Member Says HSE Industrial Action Must Be Prevented At All Costs

A Clare Oireachtas Health Committee member is calling on the HSE to excercise all avenues to avert an imminent industrial dispute.

It comes as 93% of Forsa trade union members working in clerical positions within the organisation balloted in favour of action last night, in protest of the HSE’s decision to freeze the recruitment of managerial staff in June.

The Healthcare body spent €180 million on outsourcing consultants last year, however Forsa members contend that the funds should have been invested in the upskilling or promotion of the existing workforce.

Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway says its vital a resolution is reached ahead of the expected winter surge in hospital presentations.

HSE Statement To Clare FM 

“The HSE acknowledges that Fórsa members working in clerical and administrative roles in the HSE are to commence industrial action following the result of a union ballot and recognises the right to do so.

The HSE continues to be available to engage in relation to any matters which arise, including the utilisation of the IIR mechanisms of the state, should this be required.”
