It’s claimed Clare’s not getting bang for its buck on active travel projects due to a “frustrating” overspend on consultants.
New figures obtained by Clare FM show the council has spent €2.4M on outside expertise to help design for greenways, pedestrian crossings and cycle lanes in the past five years, with over €1m alone going to the West Clare Greenway.
This is despite €550,000 been allocated in government grants to Clare County Council’s internal active travel office in the last two years.
Inagh-based Deputy Leader of the Green Party Roisín Garvey has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan she believes the process could be much more efficient.
